How to Use
Star Tortoise Enclosure
Before keeping or setting up any Tortoise or terrapin. It is important to research and understand the animals needs. Visit websites, read books and list your animals specific needs.
All animals need:
- Food and to produce waste
- Water
- Shelter/ somewhere to sleep
- Space/ somewhere to live
- Appropriate substrate
- Temperature is appropriate
- Lighting
- Ventilation / airflow
The Star Tortoise spends all of its time on the ground. They prefer a temperature between (20° to 30° Celsius) or (68° to 86° Fahrenheit). So ensure you provide heat for your animal and also Ultra Violet Light for shell growth and strength.
They can live for 50 to 100years.
Star Tortoises prefer a non dusty substrate.
Provide Kritter’s Crumble (Coarse) in one corner of the exhibit. This can give the tortoises a soft surface to walk on and act as a toileting site.
Star Tortoises are a foraging or grazing species and maybe fed regularly – from 1 to 3 times a day.
They need a shallow water bowl and contrasting substrates, eg. gravel.
When cleaning use a large spoon to remove the droppings and the Kritter’s Crumble from around that area. Then you can recycle the waste in the compost, in the garden or on the lawn.
Remember to replace the Kritter’s Crumble at least every 3 months or as required.
